Support in the final stages of life, in people's homes
In addition to hospice care, Jewish Hospice Immanuel also offers Hospice at Home, also known as Hospice BaBayit. This initiative provides support to people in the final stages of life who wish to continue living at home.
Hospice BaBayit is cared for by our dedicated and specially trained volunteers and focuses on presence, attention, and support in people's homes.
Who is home hospice for?
Hospice at Home is intended for people in the final stages of life, with a life expectancy of approximately three months. If a clear decision has not yet been made on this matter, we are happy to discuss what is appropriate and desirable together.
The initiative is aimed at people living in greater Amsterdam.
Identity-based care
Hospice BaBayit offers identity-based care, with attention to Jewish values, traditions, and personal wishes. The support is primarily intended for people with a Jewish background or an affinity for Jewish tradition, even if they are not members of a Jewish community.
We believe it is important that people feel seen and understood in a way that aligns with their philosophy of life and what is meaningful to them, especially in the final phase of life.
What do our volunteers do?
Our volunteers do not provide medical or nursing care, but they complement professional care. They can, among other things:
- offering company and being a listening ear
- relieve caregivers
- going out together or accompanying people to appointments
- perform light housework
- watch over the sick
- paying attention to Jewish holidays and other moments of significance
Our volunteers are trained and have extensive experience working with nurses and doctors within the hospice.
The volunteer's attention is genuine. Not rushed, not superficial—but with space for who I am.
Personal intake and collaboration
After registration, we schedule an intake interview at the individual's home. Based on their wishes and opportunities, we ensure a careful match between the volunteer, the individual, and their loved ones.
We consult with the general practitioner and other healthcare professionals involved, ensuring our support aligns seamlessly with existing care. This way, we collaborate with the individual concerned, ensuring care remains tailored, thorough, and transparent.
